Tropicamide + Phenylephrine Eye Drops Uses
Phenylephrine and Tropicamide are two medications present in Eye Drops. Tropicamide is an enthistamine. Phenylephrine is an anticoagulant and decongestant. Phenylephrine + Tropicamide belongs to the group of medications called Ophthalmic agents. Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops work by dilating the pupil and relaxing the eye muscles so that a thorough examination of the inside of the eye can be made. Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye drops are used to treat eye infections. It enlarges the eye’s pupil so that the doctor can see the eyes more clearly. It starts to provide relief in minutes and usually lasts 24 hours or more.
It is recommended to inform your medical healthcare provider several days after your eye test if you have blurred vision or light sensitivity. This medication is for external use only. Use as directed and for as long as prescribed. Before using, please read the label carefully.
Directions To Use
- Place the dropper in your eye without touching it. Square gently place the medication inside your lower eyelid and wipe out any excess liquid.
- Do not apply more drops than your medical healthcare provider prescribed to you, it will not benefit you, it can be dangerous.
- Close your eyes after the use of this medication for about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Place this medication away from sunlight and in a cold and dry place.
- Use this combination at the same time every day for best results.
Side Effects
Some normal harmless effects can occur, usually requiring no medical attention. But do not hesitate and talk to your medical healthcare provider freely if you have any questions. Some of the common side effects are such as
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Photophobia (Sensitivity to Light)
- Blurred Vision
- Eye Irritation
- Eye Pain
- Skin Rashe (Near Eye Mussels)
- Nausea
- Hypotension (Low Blood Pressure)
- Burning or Stinging Sensation Inside the Eye.
Precautions To Be Taken
- Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops may increase intraocular pressure, so it is not recommended for use in glaucoma patients.
- It is recommended that contact lenses be removed at least 15 minutes before the administration of Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops, as it may cause eye irritation.
- Patients with eye inflammation should not use Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drop.
- This medication is present for children with Caution, particularly those with Down syndrome or brain damage, as there is a higher risk of adverse reactions related to the nervous System.
- This medication is prescribed for proper examination of eye problems.
- Tropicamide 0.8% + Phenylephrine 5% Eye Drops, should be administered with caution to children with heart and nervous system disorders. Use is not recommended in children under the age of 1.
- The effects of alcohol on Phenylephrine + tropicamide may be affected by the presence of alcohol. Therefore, it is recommended to limit/abstain from consuming alcohol while being treated.
- It is safe for patients with Kidney or liver disease when prescribed.
